I draw upon my love of Southern Appalachian banjo masters to teach a style that is a balance between melody and rhythm. I have been playing in various Twin Cities old-time bands for the past decade. I believe in a strong rhythmic foundation with a driving beat that can be played for dances and on the back porch. Students tell me that the lessons seem like one part history and one part banjo. I encourage my students to not just play the tunes, but to feel the energy that propels them.
